No, the chirping is not in your head.
Facebook users have reported a new sound that appears while scrolling on the app on their cellphones.
The noise is not a new feature but rather a temporary bug, according to META spokesperson Andy Stone.
"Hearing a chirping noise while scrolling through your Facebook Feed on your iPhone? It’s not you, it’s us! And it’s an unfortunate technical error that we're in the process of fixing," Stone wrote on Threads and X (formerly Twitter).
For those who want the the bird sound to disappear immediately, there is a simple option.

How to stop Facebook from chirping when you scroll
Anyone can disable the chirping sound effect in settings on the mobile app. Here are step-by-step instructions:
- Open the Menu by clicking the bottom right button of the Facebook app.
- Under Settings and Privacy, click the Settings button.
- Click the Media button under Preferences.
- Under Sounds, toggle the In-App Sound to off.
Turning off the "In-App Sound" feature will end the chirping as well as the noises users hear when pressing the Like, Comment and Share buttons. But don't worry, users will still be able to hear sound from videos.
